EcoWatt Energy – Powering the Road Trip, Big and Small

Australian-owned EcoWatt Energy has built its range around portable and off-grid power, with products stretching from a power bank you can throw in your bag to some seriously chunky lithium storage for caravans, 4WDs and off-grid touring.

The heart of the range is its LiFePO4 lithium batteries, available across 12V, 24V and 48V applications. Capacities include the relatively compact 100Ah EcoStore, 200Ah and 300Ah models, slimline versions designed for tighter installations, and the whopping 628Ah EcoStore PRO. EcoWatt uses Grade A cells from manufacturers including EVE and REPT, paired with JBD battery-management systems, with Bluetooth monitoring available across much of the range.

That makes them particularly interesting for caravanners, campers, 4WD tourers and anyone running fridges, lights, pumps, inverters and other 12V gear away from mains power. The slimline batteries also make sense behind seats and in canopies where every centimetre of space becomes strangely valuable.

One important tip: EcoWatt specifically advises against installing its deep-cycle LiFePO4 batteries under the bonnet, because sustained engine-bay heat can affect performance, lifespan and safety. That's the sort of detail worth knowing before you've attacked the engine bay with a socket set.

At the opposite end of the scale is the EcoPower Ultimate 27. It packs 27,600mAh/99.36Wh, up to 140W USB-C charging and enough grunt to charge compatible laptops as well as phones and tablets. Cleverly, its capacity sits below 100Wh, meaning it falls within the commonly accepted airline carry-on threshold – although we'd still check your particular airline before flying.

EcoWatt is Australian owned and operated, with its local operation and stock based in Brisbane. Dylan, one of the owners of the company says it manages everything from component procurement and design through manufacturing and quality assurance, using cells sourced from established manufacturers including EVE and REPT.

What we like

The range isn't obsessed with one type of traveller. Weekend camper, grey nomad, serious off-grid tourer or laptop warrior doing emails beside the Murray – there's something relevant. The Bluetooth monitoring system was a real winner for us, helps you keep track of your energy levels and needs no matter where you are.

What we'd like next

An even broader portable-power range between the Ultimate 27 and the big installed battery systems. A rugged, grab-and-go power station would fill that gap rather nicely.

Because sometimes you need to run a caravan. Sometimes you just need enough juice to stop your phone dying halfway through Google Maps. Both can ruin your afternoon.
