Portable Projectors: Your Own Cinema, Wherever You Park
Turn your caravan site, campsite or holiday accommodation into a private cinema with a portable projector. We explore the Nebula Capsule 3, its clever features and why it's worth packing for your next road trip.

Forget the tiny caravan television. With a portable projector, the next blockbuster could be screening under the stars, beside the beach or against the wall of your holiday accommodation.
There's something wonderfully ridiculous about driving hundreds of kilometres to escape civilisation, only to spend Saturday night watching Netflix. But throw in a portable projector, a couple of camp chairs and some popcorn, and suddenly you've got yourself a private outdoor cinema. No overpriced choc-tops required.
Portable projectors have come a long way from those bulky office machines that sounded like a Boeing preparing for take-off. Today's compact models can deliver impressive pictures, built-in streaming and rechargeable batteries, with some barely bigger than a drink bottle.

Small Package, Big Picture
One worth considering is the Nebula Capsule 3 (opens in a new tab) from Chinese electronics company Anker. Weighing just 850 grams, this little cylinder can project an image up to 120 inches, with Full HD 1080p resolution, Google TV, built-in Netflix and an 8W speaker.

Its rechargeable battery offers up to 2.5 hours of viewing, while automatic focusing and image correction take much of the fiddling out of setup. That's rather clever for something smaller than your average thermos.
Movie Night, Touring Style
For caravanners, campers and families travelling with kids, the possibilities are terrific. Hang a portable screen from your awning, project onto a smooth white wall at a holiday house, or turn a motel room into your own cinema.
Even couples touring without children might appreciate an outdoor movie with a glass of something decent after a long day's driving.

There are catches, though. Most compact projectors perform best after dark, and streaming requires internet access unless you've organised suitable offline content. You'll also want to check campsite rules before treating the neighbouring caravans to your favourite action movie.
What We Love – And What We'd Change
We love the portability, surprisingly large picture and versatility. The Capsule 3 can even double as a Bluetooth speaker when movie night isn't on the agenda.
What we'd like next? Brighter images for twilight viewing, longer battery life and more powerful built-in sound. A proper travel case included as standard wouldn't hurt either.
