The new myCOOLMAN 115L Upright Fridge/Freezer takes one of the best features of a portable camping fridge — independently controlled cooling zones — and squeezes it into a practical upright unit designed for life on the road.

Rather than digging through a chest fridge with your backside in the air while searching for the sausages, everything is arranged across adjustable shelves and door storage. In its standard dual-zone configuration, you get a 94-litre main compartment and a separate 18-litre compartment. That smaller zone can operate as either a fridge or freezer, with temperatures adjustable from -18°C to +18°C. Remove it completely and the unit becomes one large 115-litre fridge.

Smart Technology That Is Actually Useful

Bluetooth connectivity allows you to monitor and adjust the fridge from a compatible phone, saving you from opening the canopy every time you want to check the temperature. There is also a digital dual-zone control panel, Turbo Mode for faster cooling, a three-stage battery protection system and a dimmable or auto-off display — particularly welcome when the fridge is installed near where somebody is trying to sleep.

Other touring-friendly features include a reversible door, dual-pin travel lock, dual-colour interior lighting, adjustable storage and an Anderson plug connection. It runs from 12V or 24V DC and carries a three-year nationwide warranty. At 752mm high, 520mm wide and 560mm deep, it delivers useful family-sized storage without swallowing an entire canopy.

Who Is It For?

The obvious home is inside a 4X4 canopy, but it also makes sense in camper trailers, compact caravans, motorhomes, touring utes and mobile work vehicles. Tradies could use it for cold drinks and lunches during the week, then load it with steaks, frozen supplies and a few medicinal Friday-afternoon beverages for the weekend.

Installation should be manageable for an experienced DIYer if the vehicle already has suitable wiring, cabinetry and ventilation. However, this is not simply a matter of dropping it into a hole and plugging it into a household socket. It requires a properly fused DC circuit, adequate ventilation, secure mounting and provision for its drain hose. If any of that sounds like electrical witchcraft, use an auto electrician or qualified RV installer.

What We Like — And What Could Come Next

What we like most is the flexibility. You can carry frozen food on a long trip, run both sections as refrigerators for a big gathering, or remove the smaller compartment when maximum cold-storage space matters more.

For its next evolution, we would love to see Wi-Fi-based remote temperature alerts alongside Bluetooth, plus the optional off-road shelf retainers included as standard. When you are bouncing along a corrugated track, keeping the milk cold is important — keeping it off the floor is even better.

Dual Zone makes it the perfect option for touring

At $1,445 at the time of writing, the myCOOLMAN 115L is a serious touring appliance, but for travellers wanting upright convenience without giving away genuine dual-zone control, it is an extremely clever bit of kit.
